9.44am: Some early news: Stuart Broad and James Anderson have decided to turn down the riches on offer in the IPL next year and focus on their England careers. "Whilst the chance to play in the IPL is potentially a great opportunity, my number one priority is, and always will be, to represent my country," said Broad. "I am living my boyhood dream to be playing cricket for England and the possibility of being selected to travel to Australia next year, with the aim of retaining the Ashes, would be a great honour." I think one of the problems in the new shortlist. If I remember correctly the Beeb started doing this a few years ago after accepting email/text votes and got scared by people voting for prank sports people. Now all football fans, who watch only football because the media keep telling them that IS the only sport, vote for the only available footballer option, whereas previously sports people in team sports (footbal, cricket, rugby) rarely got picked because they often didn't stand out from the rest of the team sufficiently to garner enough votes, unless they were particularly prominent (eg Freddie, Beckham).
